WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR
Zone Operations

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs semi-skilled work in the operation, cleaning and maintenance of collection system sewer lines, pump stations, manholes and wet wells; does related work as needed. Performs essential work functions during inclement weather conditions. Work is performed under regular supervision.

TYPICAL TASKS:
Operates, monitors and maintains pumping stations, grinder and effluent pumps, and isolation, control and air release valves;
Responds to wastewater stoppages/backups, makes corrections and/or repairs and discusses problem with customers;
Prepares daily/weekly/monthly records of pump operations, complaint responses and activities;
Performs maintenance and troubleshooting activities on pumps based on routine reporting systems;
Performs on-call response after hours and on holidays on a rotating basis and responds to emergencies as needed;
Monitors and maintains odor control systems;
Cleans, monitors, tests, maintains and repairs collections and transmissions systems, including sewer line repairs, cleaning, TVing, clean out installation and smoke testing;
Investigates collection system for inflow/infiltration problems and makes repairs;
Participates with restoration projects, pump station upgrades and rebuilding of pumps;
Pumps and cleans settling tanks;
Performs all tasks in a safe manner and in accordance with approved safety procedures;
Performs intermediate math functions;
Operates and maintains vehicles, equipment and tools;
Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Intermediate knowledge of electrical tasks with troubleshooting skills including the ability to use amp and volt meters; knowledge of tools, materials, equipment and tasks involved in the operations and maintenance of a sanitary sewer collection system, including the ability to operate pumps, generators, pressure cleaners, pump and haul, TV inspection and associated equipment, power tools and hand tools; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions and communicate effectively with staff and customers; ability to perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods under all weather conditions in the field; ability to use appropriate safety equipment, follow safe work procedures, understand, and comply with Authority policies; ability to lift 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; ability to bend, reach and stand for extended periods of time, climb ladders, twist, sit, kneel, crawl, squat and walk; and ability to drive a vehicle daily.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Driver’s License according to State of residence.

• Associate Wastewater System Operator – $18.23+ per hour
• Wastewater System Operator – $19.65+ per hour
• Senior Wastewater System Operator – $21.62+ per hour
• Wastewater Collections Crew Leader – $23.78+ per hour

THIS POSITION IS OPEN IN OUR WASTEWATER COLLECTIONS DEPARTMENT. THE PAY RANGE FOR THE ASSOCIATE WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR POSITION IS $18.23 - $26.43 PER HOUR. DEADLINE OF RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS IS 5:00 PM, MONDAY JANUARY 20th .
