WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR
(Retrofits)
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs specialized technical work in the inspection, maintenance, and monitoring of wastewater collection system residential grinders and other assets associated with the sewer collection system. Performs studies/work to reduce complaints due to grinder issues. Work is performed under regular supervision. Does all related work as required.

TYPICAL TASKS:
Identifies necessary repairs, recommends proactive improvements, troubleshoots sewer system;
Makes repairs on grinder tanks which includes but is not limited to risers, electrical panels, pumps, instrumentation;
Assists with basic electrical maintenance;
Performs landscaping on property after work is completed;
Troubleshoots and repairs residential grinder pumps;
Enters data for pump maintenance tracking and parts inventory;
Washes and cleans grinder pumps on a frequent basis;
Performs maintenance on grinder training building to ensure training is updated consistently;
Makes repairs on active sewer service lines coming from customers’ residences;
Assists in grinder related odor complaints;
Participates and/or leads sewer restoration projects, closed circuit televising of gravity mains/services, repeat customer complaints and grinder training as needed;
Performs intermediate hydraulic practices, wet well draw downs, pump troubleshoot analysis, data collection, pump pulls & installs;
Ensures all programs are maintained and data collected and maintenance performed is entered into each assigned program (Gnet, Central Square, Excel, etc.);
May operate trucks, smoke blowers, confined space equipment, fork lift, cranes, backhoe, hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment in connection with the above tasks;
Performs on-call responsibilities after-hours and on holidays on a rotating basis to ensure uninterrupted sewer service for customers; On-call responsibilities include but are not limited to responding to customer complaints, residential grinder stations alarm/issue, pump station alarms/issues, assisting with emergency repair of gravity mains, service lines, force mains, air release valves, operating combination trucks;
Performs sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) cleanup procedures;
Performs tasks related as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Intermediate knowledge of tools, materials, equipment and tasks involved in the operations and maintenance of a sanitary sewer collection system; ability to foresee potential problems and work efficiently to provide solutions; ability to perform basic and/or intermediate math functions; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions and communicate effectively both verbally and audibly; ability to lift 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; ability to move and traverse work sites on unpaved streets, uneven ground and in cluttered work areas; ability to perform strenuous manual labor in all weather and environmental conditions (ex. elevated noise levels, rain, sleet, snow, extreme temperatures); ability to work and make visual observations day and night; ability to bend, reach, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs and ladders, twist, sit, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, squat and walk; and ability to drive a vehicle daily.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Driver’s License according to state of residence.

Title advancements and/or promotions to various positions depend on an individual’s job performance, knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience and other special requirements. There is no guarantee of career progression to these or any other positions at the Authority.
• Associate Wastewater System Operator – $18.23+ per hour
• Wastewater System Operator – $19.65+ per hour
• Senior Wastewater System Operator – $21.62+ per hour
• Wastewater Collections Crew Leader – $23.78+ per hour

THIS POSITION IS OPEN IN THE WASTEWATER COLLECTIONS DEPARTMENT. THE PAY RANGE FOR THE ASSOCIATE WASTEWATER SYSTEM OPERATOR POSITION IS $18.23 - $26.43 PER HOUR. DEADLINE OF RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS IS 5:00 PM, THURSDAY, MARCH 20, 2025.
