MECHANIC
Well Operations
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs skilled preventative and corrective maintenance of deep-water wells and associated equipment at GSWSA’s ASR, blend, & production wells; performs related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on ASR, blend, and production wells;
Follows all industry standards including local, state, and federal laws pertaining to water well maintenance;
Uses a variety of tools, chemicals, and equipment for maintenance and rehabilitation of deep-water wells;
Creates and maintains spare parts to limit downtime for critical sites;
Operates crane trucks;
Operates a variety of heavy equipment including but not limited to backhoes, excavators, bull dozers, and skid steers;
Reviews site plans, construction plans, and bid documents for proper placement, layout and construction of well sites, well placement and well house construction;
Prepares well sites for well drilling contractors and well house construction contractors;
Completes final site grading work at new well construction sites;
Creates bid specifications for well repair and rehabilitation work to be completed by contractors;
Coordinates with contractors on work to be completed;
Inspects special construction type work for new well construction (drilling, developing, screen settings, pump setting, sand testing, gravel pack installation, etc.);
Monitors and records flow and water level data for historical comparison, and calculates water volume for cycle testing;
Maintains spreadsheets used for data collection, and utilizes software for asset management;
Collects arsenic sample for compliance and field test cycle samples for Ph, CL2, conductivity, turbidity, and fluoride;
Plans and implements cycle testing schedule based on water volume and well recovery rate so cycle testing will not be interrupted;
Completes daily checks for proper well operations;
Participates in after hours on-call on a rotating basis and responds to emergencies 24/7 as needed; 
Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and tools to perform maintenance of deep water wells and equipment; general knowledge of SCDHEC requirements  for water well construction and all associated equipment and chemical feed systems; general knowledge of Microsoft office in order to maintain spreadsheets; general knowledge of GSWSA Lucity asset management program; basic knowledge of hydraulics and pump curves for proper pump selection and setting; some knowledge of the principles of water treatment and water distribution to maintain water quality and integrity while performing maintenance tasks; ability to operate a personal computer; ability to detect and correct equipment requiring maintenance; ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal forms; ability to follow moderately complex oral and written instructions accurately; ability to work outside in all weather conditions; ability to perform strenuous manual labor under all weather conditions in the field; ability to lift 50 pounds, bend, reach, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, ladders, twist, sit, kneel, crawl, squat and walk and ability to drive a vehicle daily.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and 2 years of mechanical experience. Experience in the maintenance and rehabilitation of deep water well or Municipal well drilling experience is desired, but not required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a South Carolina D Water Treatment license, Class B CDL with a hazmat endorsement and a South Carolina Cross Connection license.

•	Water System Crew Leader: $25.25+ per hour
THIS POSITION IS OPEN IN THE WATER DISTRIBUTION DEPARTMENT. APPLICANTS WHO DO NOT MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION MAY BE CONSIDERED, BUT IF SELECTED THEY WOULD BE PAID ONE PAY GRADE BELOW THE MINIMUM UNTIL THEY SATISFY THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS. PAY RANGE IS $22.96 - $34.43 PER HOUR. DEADLINE OF RECEIPT OF APPLICATION IS 5:00 PM, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2025.
