ACCOUNTANT
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs professional and advanced work assisting the Accounting & Finance Department in all accounting functions and related operations. Does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Checks and approves invoices for payment, processes and disburses payables checks;
Reviews vendor statements for any outstanding items;
Reviews construction contract and regular accounts payable invoices for extension errors, matches with purchase order, prepares voucher for approval for payment;
Prepares monthly sales tax return;
Reconciles inventory to physical count and makes necessary adjustments;
Prepares 1099s at year-end;
Reconciles bank statements to general ledger;
Prepares detailed schedules of capital funds;
Prepares and processes bi-weekly payroll, completes payroll deposits and prepares payroll tax returns;
Coordinates the preparation of year-end reports including W-2’s;
Reviews and ensures proper recording of fixed assets;
Prepares all financial records to satisfy audit requirements;
Reviews capital projects to determine eligible costs for reimbursement through grants, loans and contracts;
Prepares timely and accurate requests for reimbursement of outside funds from FEMA, grants, loans and contracts;
Prepares schedule of Federal Financial Assistance;
Assists in annual budgeting and bi-annual rate study, as needed;
Prepares unclaimed property report for customer refund checks annually;
Prepares miscellaneous billings and post to the general ledger;
Prepares journal entries, reconciles general ledger accounts and assists in preparation of financial statements;
Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
General working knowledge of the theory, principles, methods and practices of accounting; thorough knowledge of the laws, ordinances and regulations governing utility system financial matters; extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office; strong organization skills; ability to prepare complex financial reports and records; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates; ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to multi-task and prioritize workload; ability to operate a vehicle; ability to stand, walk and to sit for extended periods of time, ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., ability to reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and handle objects with hands and/or fingers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university and 2 years’ experience is required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid driver’s license according to state of residence.
THIS POSITION IS OPEN IN THE ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT. SALARY RANGE IS $48,755.20 - $101,296.00. THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLED.
