GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the installation, construction and repairs of water and sewer lines and appurtenances; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

TYPICAL TASKS:
Acts as lead worker of a crew;
Participates in the work of the crew installing water and sewer lines;
Acts as Crew Leader when required;
Tests lines to correct pressure;
Ensures lines are chlorinated and valves are closed;
Notifies proper authorities that line has been under pressure for required time;
Ensures all repair and maintenance work is done in accordance to GSWSA standards;
Ensures project landscaping is completed according to requirements;
Repairs and replaces lines and related facilities;
Operates trucks, tractors, back-hoe, air hammer, tapping machine and mechanical equipment in connection with the above tasks;
Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of water and/or sewer lines; knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks involved in the installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of water and/or sewer lines and appurtenances; knowledge in the use of common hand and power tools; thorough knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of common automotive and mechanical equipment; semi-skilled with computers and familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to proficiently operate back-hoe and other construction equipment; ability to perform manual and semi-skilled labor for extended periods; ability to perform strenuous manual labor under all weather conditions in the field; ability to lift 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; ability to bend, reach and stand for extended periods of time, climb ladders, twist, sit, kneel, crawl, squat and walk; ability to drive a vehicle daily; ability to obtain SC LLR Environmental Certification Board licensure; ability to use appropriate safety equipment, follow safe work procedures, understand and comply with Authority policies; and the ability to perform all tasks in a safe manner in accordance with GSWSA’s safety procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and 2 years experience in the maintenance, repair and/or construction of water and sewer lines including experience in operating back-hoe and other construction equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a Class A CDL with airbrakes. Hazardous materials endorsement may be required.

CAREER PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES:
Title advancements and/or promotions to various positions depend on an individual’s job performance, knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience and other special requirements. There is no guarantee of career progression to these or any other positions at the Authority.
• Heavy Equipment Operator: $19.65+ per hour
• Senior Heavy Equipment Operator: $21.62+ per hour
• Repairs Crew Leader: $23.78+ per hour

THIS POSITION IS OPEN IN THE REPAIRS DEPARTMENT. THE PAY RANGE FOR A HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR IS $19.65 TO $29.48/HR. THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL 5:00 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4TH.
