FLEET MECHANIC

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs preventative maintenance and repair work of GSWSA’s vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, generators and other miscellaneous equipment at GSWSA’s Fleet Shop and other site locations. Performs related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision.

TYPICAL TASKS:
Performs maintenance and repairs on a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment;
Performs maintenance and repairs on a variety of trailers, generators, and other miscellaneous equipment;
Performs related duties such as operating shop equipment and providing mobile service;
Maintains records and reports related to maintenance and repairs;
Assists scheduling daily workload and adds appointments to scheduling board;
Assists in the logistics of hauling fleet vehicles and equipment to outside vendors for repairs;
Removes, installs and maintains GSWSA’s AVL system components;
Available on call during inclement weather periods;
Follows GSWSA’s safe work practices and adheres to safety guidelines;
Performs all tasks in a safe manner in accordance with OSHA standard;
Adheres to GSWSA’s safety guidelines and procedures;
Uses computer to enter data and prepare reports;
Performs field road service for the diagnosis and repair of vehicles and equipment;
Maintains a clean and orderly shop area and equipment;
Maintains control of inventory items;
Performs on-call response after hours and on holidays on a rotating basis and responds to emergencies as needed; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, materials and tools to perform maintenance and repair work of vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, generators, etc.; thorough knowledge of hydraulic and electrical principles related to vehicles and equipment; proven ability to diagnose and repair vehicles and equipment failures; ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately; ability to enter data into computer system; ability to maintain records and prepare accurate and concise reports; ability to perform basic math calculations; ability to use appropriate safety equipment and follow safe work procedures; ability to work outdoors under all weather conditions; ability to lift 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; ability to bend, reach and stand for extended periods of time, twist, sit, kneel, climb, crawl, squat and walk; and ability to drive a vehicle daily.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED. A minimum of five years of experience in preventive maintenance and repair work of vehicles and heavy equipment. Majority of experience with heavy equipment repairs is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid CDL License according to state of residence.

Senior Fleet Mechanic: $24.75+ per hour (at a minimum 4 years of experience as a Fleet Mechanic at GSWSA is required)

THIS POSITION IS OPEN IN THE FLEET SERVICES DEPARTMENT. THE PAY RANGE FOR THE FLEET MECHANIC POSITION IS $22.95 - $34.43 PER HOUR. POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLED.
